Dr. Angela Barker has a background in music education with a Bachelor of Music Education from Shorter University in Rome, Georgia; a Master of Music in Music Education from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin; and a PhD in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. She received her Kodály certification from the University of North Texas and Silver Lake College. Her teaching experience includes early childhood music classes for children, ages 6 months to 5 years; general and choral music at elementary schools in Texas and Virginia; and graduate and undergraduate courses in music education at the University of Oklahoma, Georgia State University, Silver Lake College, and Boston University. She has directed numerous children’s choirs and is currently Director of Children’s Choirs at Parkway Baptist Church in Duluth/Johns Creek. Dr. Barker has taught both private and group lessons for young pianists, and works especially hard to ensure that the pace and focus of each lesson leads the student to experience music in positive and meaningful ways. Weekly lessons are geared toward making learning fun and interactive with the goal of helping each student develop a lifelong enjoyment of music and playing the piano.
