Jonathan McWilliams began playing the double bass in the fourth grade and began teaching during his undergraduate years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in bass performance from the University of North Texas, a Performance Diploma in bass from Boston Conservatory, a Master’s Degree in bass performance from Yale University, and a minor in cello performance from the University of Georgia. Jonathan joined the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera in 2013, plays in the Greenville and Huntsville Symphonies, and has subbed in the Atlanta Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, and Knoxville Symphony, as well as many other regional orchestras in the area. Jonathan believes that the study of music benefits an individual on many levels, and he enjoys helping students develop their technical and musical abilities on the bass and cello. He chooses etudes and excerpts from a variety of method books, and seeks to find music that both motivates and challenges each individual according to their needs, and according to their interests. He also believes that the values to be learned through the study of music are vast, and looks forward to seeing how music will positively impact you!
